SARAH FURNELL STAPLES
THE LATE MRS. JOSEPH STAPLES
The decease of this lady occurred, after a lingering illness, on the morning of Sunday, January 13th, at her residence, Auckland House, Craven-road. Mrs Staples was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Woolridge Fielder, and the widow of Mr. Joseph Staples, who formerly carried on business on the Bridge, Newbury.
Mrs. Staples was one of the oldest members of the Congregational Church, and for many years conducted a Bible Class for young women in connection with the Sunday School She continued to the last to take much interest in the affairs of the church.
The funeral took place at the Cemetery. last Friday afternoon, the Rev. F.W. Clarke officiating.
The mourners were Mr. Edmund L Staples, Mr. John Staples, Mr. May (Marlborough), and Mr. Broome Pinniger.
The coffin was of polished oak, with brass plate -

Aged 83.
By special request there were no flowers.
There were present at the cemetery the Rev. J. Sellicks, Mr. Rankin, J.P., Mr. F.C. Hopson, J.P., Mr. W.J. Blacket, Mrs. E.L.Staples, Mrs. Gayfer, Miss Nash, Mrs. Nash etc.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. George Wintle and Son.
