    See existing notes in FNRC BURIAL RECORDS In addition: Mary worked as a servant before she married, in 1891 for retired farmer, James Tubb & his wife of 1, Mount Villa, Newtown Rd, Newbury. Joseph started work earning 15/- as a porter for GWR at Theale Station. His wages rose to 17/- in 1890 & 18/- in 1891. In July 1890 he was reprimanded for "Irregular working of signals causing delay to a train" but was not fined. In his will he left £1522. In 1939 he was described as a retired lorry driver. MARY ANNE STEPHENS

THE LATE MRS. J. STEPHENS

The death took place on April 14th, of Mrs. Mary Anne Stephens, wife of Mr. J. Stephens, of 43 Boundary-road, Newbury, after a long illness. The deceased, who was aged 77, came of a well known Newbury family, who have been connected with the Methodist Church.

She leaves a husband, two daughters (one in Australia) and a son.

The funeral took place on April 19th, a service being held at the Stroud Green Chapel, the Rev A. Russell Potts officiating......

The family mourners were : Mr. J. Stephens (husband), Mrs. S. Hieatt (daughter), Sergt. J. Stephens (son), Mrs. S. Pope (adopted niece), Mrs. S. Ball (sister), Harry, Jim, Bert and Gus Eggleton (brothers), Mrs. J.W. Stephens (daughter-in-law), Joan, Ronald, Brenda, Margaret, John and Barbara (grandchildren). Nurse Domone, Grace, Millicent, Doris, Kathleen and Gwen (nieces), Mrs. A. Eggleton, Fireman L. Eggleton and Flying Officer L. Grey, D.F.M. (nephews). etc.
