TUESDAY. Before Alderman Hickman.

DRUNKENNESS

Robert Rapson was charged with being drunk and incapable. Charles Perry, supernumerary constable, deposed that about half-past 11 on the previous night he was called into the " George and Dragon." Defendant was there, very drunk; he refused to leave. and he then led him to his home; defendant continued to be very abusive, and made such a noise as to arouse the neighbourhood, several persons appearing at their windows to know what was occurring. Finding he would not go in doors, he took him off to the police station. Defendant assaulted witness, but that charge he did not press. The Bench fined him 5s., with 5s. 6d. costs.

A FALSE REPORT. To the Editor of the Newbury Weekly News. you oblige me with a small space in your valuable paper to contradict a false report circulated by some busy-body or evil-disposed person respecting me, to the effect that I am bankrupt, in which there is not the slightest truth, as can be proved by any one in Newbury it may concern, or to whom I am indebted, by calling on me and receiving twenty shillings in the pound. His Worship the Mayor stated on the Bench last week, that people in Newbury do not always speak the truth, and this is another proof of it; and as it is calculated to injure me in my business, you will greatly oblige by inserting this in your next. I am Sir, yours respectfully, ROBERT RAPSON. Northbrook St., Newbury.
