THOMAS SIMMONS

The funeral of the Late Mr. Thomas Simmons. On Monday last the mortal remains of the above lamented gentleman were conveyed to their final resting place the cemetery. The shops were partially closed where the funeral cortège passed, and the town council with the mace bearers, out of respect, headed the funeral procession.

Town Council- In consequence of the death of Mr. Simmons,a vacancy has occurred in the Town Council. The election will take place on Friday next. There are two candidates, the municipal honours in the field, Mr. E. Wilson and Mr. R.R. Robinson. Both parties are sanguine of success, and doubt a spirited contest will be the result.

The Late Mr. Simmons.

Our obituary this week contains the announcement of the death of this gentleman who died Thursday evening last, after a short illness.

As tradesman, Mr. Simmons was well-known and highly respected; his death has cast a gloom over the parish in which he lived. He was a member of the Town Council, charity trustee, one of the committee and treasurer of the horticultural society of which he was a great supporter.

Mr. Simmons has filled several other offices connected with the borough, and his loss will be much felt.
