Transciption: | THOMAS LEATHWAIT SIMMONS FUNERAL OF A VOLUNTEER.— In our obituary last week we inserted the notice of the death of Mr. T. L. Simmons, whose death occurred on the previous Monday. On Friday last the funeral took place in the Cemetery. The cortege left Porchester-villa shortly after three o'clock, being followed by fifteen scholars of Christ's Hospital, and fifty-four of the Newbury Corps of Volunteers—the deceased having been educated at Christ's Hospital, and having subsequently been a, member of the Volunteer Corps. The obsequies were performed by the Rev. W. B. Banting and the Rev. H. F. Hunt, both of whom alluded to the deceased in their sermons on Sunday morning. Proceeding from the Cemetery Chapel, the funeral train passed between two files of the Volunteers. ranged on either side of the path, who thus testified their respect and esteem for their departed comrade. A large number of spectators were also present at the ceremony as by a wide circle of friends Mr. Simmons was known and esteemed, and his sudden removal has awakened much sympathy with his bereaved family.
