The following appeared in the Reading Mercury on the 17th and 24th June 1865 

RE ROBERT HUNT, DECEASED

Pursuant to the Act of Parliament 22nd and 23rd Vic, cap 35, intituled “An Act to further amend the Law of Property and relieve Trustees” Notice is hereby given, that all persons having any Claims or Demands against the Estate of Robert Hunt, late of 4 Montague Place, Newbury, in the County of Berks. And formerly of Christ’s Hospital, in the City of London. Cook, deceased, who died on the 9th day of February, 1865, and whose will was proved in the Principal Registry of Her Majesty’s Court of Probate, on the 6th day of May last by John Osborn Wilson (one of the Executors therein named), are required to send in on or before the 9th day of July next, full particulars in writing of all such claims or demands to the said John Osborn Wilson, of No, 1, Trump Street, King Street, Cheapside, in the City of London, or to us, the undersigned, as his Solicitors, at the expiration of which time the said Executor will proceed to distribute the whole of the assets of the deceased among the parties entitles thereto, having regard only to the claims or demands of which he shall then have had notice, and the said Executor will not in respect of the said assets so distributed be answerable or liable to any person or persons of whose claim or demand he shall not then have had notice.

Robert was baptised on the 11th March 1793 at St Lawrence, Stroud, Gloucestershire, the son of Daniel and Anne Hunt (nee Gubbin/Gubbins) who were married on the 24th September 1778 in Stroud.

Daniel and Anne also had the following children baptised at St Lawrence, Stroud:

Thomas 14th February 1796

Anne 4th September 1796

Robert married Fanny Breese (nee Harris) a widow on the 22nd December 1819 at St Anne Soho Westminster.

(Fanny was born on the 1st February 1781 in Harnham Wiltshire, she was baptised on the 1st July 1781 at the Parish Church of Britford, Wiltshire, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Harris. She married James Breese, a Gardener, on the 26th November 1810 at St George Hanover Square Westminster. (James and Fanny had a daughter, Sarah Jemima Breese, born 21st September 1812, she was baptised 22nd October 1812 in Fisherton Anger, Wiltshire. No death record found for James Breese)

Robert and Fanny had a son Albert, born on the 22nd April 1820, baptised 21st May 1820 and a daughter Mary Ann, born 25th March 1821, baptised 13th April 1821. Both were baptised in Marylebone London and Robert was recorded as a Servant on the baptism records. 

In 1841 Albert married Elizabeth Jane Wilson, Robert was recorded as a Gentleman on the marriage certificate. In 1849 Mary Ann (abode; Christ Hospital) married John Osborn Wilson, Robert was recorded as a Cook. John and Elizabeth were possibly brother and sister (father recorded as William Wilson a Farmer on both marriage records). 

The 1851 census records Robert (58) and Fanny (69) at Christ Hospital, Newgate Street, London, both were recorded as Cooks. (The 1851 census records Fanny’s married daughter Sarah Jemima Wood living at 1Montague Place, Newbury).

Sometime between 1851 and 1861 Robert and Fanny moved to 4 Montague Place, Newbury.

Fanny died aged 79 in 1860, she was laid to rest in a consecrated private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th November.

The 1861 census records Robert (68) as a Fund Holder, living at 4 Montague Place, Newbury.

He died aged 71 on the 9th February 1865, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th February with his late wife Fanny.

Probate:  6th May 1865    Effects: Under £5000       The Will of Robert Hunt formerly of Christ Hospital in the City of London Cook but late of 4 Montague-place Newbury in the County of Berks deceased who died 9th February 1865 at Montague-place aforesaid was proved at the Principal Registry by the oath of John Osborn Wilson of Trump-street London aforesaid Manchester Agent one of the Executors.
