SUDDEN DEATH
Our obituary contains the sudden death of Mrs. Packer, wife of Mr. John Packer, silversmith, of Northbrook street, in this town (Newbury). The deceased lady was on a visit to some friends in London, when tbe melancholy event occurred.
She retired to rest on Friday night in her usual health, and about four o'clock the next morning the lady who slept with her was awoke (sic) by her, when she found her in a dying state, and almost immediately afterwards expired.
Mr. Packer received a telegraph message on Saturday morning last to summon him to London immediately, the dreadful news not being mentioned; but it would be impossible to describe his feelings on his arrival at the scene of desolation, and when the awful news was made known to him.
It was not before Sunday morning that the melancholy event was generally known in this town, and when it was, it cast quite a gloom over it, every one appearing to sympathise at such unexpected bereavement.
The deceased lady was well known, and highly respected, her character being kind and unassuming. |
