Elizabeth Crosswell

1809-1862

 

Elizabeth Hunt was born on the 28th June 1809 in West Wellow Hampshire, she was baptised on the 10th August 1809 in Sherfield English Hampshire and was the daughter of Andrew & Elizabeth Hunt (nee Noble) who married in Sherfield English in 1805.

 

Elizabeth married William Batten on the 1st February 1834 at St Mary’s Church Greenham but unfortunately the marriage was not a long one as William died aged 29 less than three years later, he was buried on the 24th July 1836 at St Mary’s Church Greenham and at the time of his death they were living in Stroud Green.  Elizabeth gave birth to their son William Eleazer the following year.

 

Elizabeth remarried in 1839, her 2nd husband was George Crosswell (born c1818 in Greenham) they were married on the 21st December at St Nicolas Church Newbury. Elizabeth & George had a son Thomas born c1841 but sadly he died aged 1 the following year. They lived in Back Lane Newbury (1841), Bear Yard Market Place (1851) and Market Place (1861). George worked as a Shoemaker until at least 1851 but by 1861 he was an Innkeeper.

 

Elizabeth died aged 55 in 1862 she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd February.

 

After Elizabeth’s death George moved back to Greenham (Graham’s Cottages) he died aged 47 in 1865 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st June.
