Stillborn children were not recorded in the burial register, only in the cemetery accounts.

John Keys

John Keys

c1816-1855

 

John was born in Newbury he was the son of John and Catherine Keys (nee Brown) who were married on the 21st October 1813 in Albury Oxfordshire. John was born c1785 in Bucklebury Berkshire and Catherine was born c1790.

John and Catherine also had the following children:

Sarah Ann c1815

Eliza c1821

Harriet c1826

Caroline 1827 (died aged 5 months buried on the 17th July at St Nicolas Church Newbury)

Maria c1832

In 1815 John’s father, mother and sister, Sarah Ann, were living in Clark’s Buildings (on the west side of Bartholomew Street) Newbury, John’s father was working as a Glazier.

John’s mother died aged 45 in 1835 she was laid to rest on the 8th April at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

In 1841 John (25) was working as a Plumber, living with his father John (55), also a Plumber and his sisters Elizabeth (20) (Eliza) and Harriet (15) in Bartholomew Street Newbury. Maria (10) was recorded living in Mary Hill Newbury (possibly a school)

The 1851 census records John (35) as a Plumber and Glazier living in Bartholomew Street with his father, who was recorded as a Plumber and Glazier (employing 3 men) and his sister Maria (20).

John died aged 39 on the 4th October 1855 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th October.

Both his father John and sister Maria (married name Banks) were also buried in the Cemetery. Maria was buried on the 30th September 1861 and John was buried on the 4th March 1863.
