DEATH OF AN AGED ALMSMAN

The death took place on February 27th, at Kimber's Alms-houses, in the Market-place, of Daniel Powers, who outlived his wife by just three months.

He was a native of Newbury, having been born in West Mills, and one of a family of 18, 16 of whom were sons, and two daughters, all of whom lived to be married. His death almost “determines” one of the oldest families of the town.

He married the widow of the late Francis Dore of 96, Northbrook-street, over 50 years ago as he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding some two or three years since.

He worked for the late Mr. George Boyer as a plumber for many years.

The funeral took place on March 2nd, in the same grave as his late wife, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. L.R. Majendie. The mourners were Messrs. Thomas and Jesse Powers (sons), Miss Ellen Powers and Mrs. Funnell (daughters), and Mr. F. Dore (step-son).

Flowers were sent from his children: Jesse and Emily and grand-children Fred, Did, and Nellie: Mr. and Mrs. Funnell and grandchildren; from Emily; F. and E. Layant; Nell, Frank, and Mill.

The coffin was of polished oak with brass furniture, and the name plate was inscribed: “Daniel Powers, died February 27, 1915, aged 84 years.” The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Hart and Son.
