Albert Henry Veale
1868-1912
Albert Henry, his parents, siblings and early life:
Albert Henry was the son of Henry Veale and Jennette/Jennette Shadrock/Shadrack/Shadrach Norton. He was born in Exeter, Devon but his birth was registered in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 5th July 1868 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury with his brother Edwin James Norton Veale (possibly Albert’s half-brother, born Edwin James Musgrave born c1865)
According to the 1871 census his father Henry was born c1832 in Tooley Street (recorded as Sorley Street on ancestry), London. According to the same census his mother Jennette Shadrack Norton was born in 1844 in London, Middlesex but her birth was registered in Aberystwyth, Wales, in 1842. She was the daughter of John and Jennette Norton (nee Crawford) who were married in 1834, in St David, Exeter, Devon. Jeannette Shadrack Norton married James Musgrave in 1862 in Surrey. They had a daughter Amy Jeanette Musgrave born in 1863, in Surrey and a son Edwin James Musgrave born c1865 (possibly born in Surrey, no birth registration found). James Musgrove died aged 23 (actual age 25) in 1866 in Surrey.
After her husband died Jennette formed a relationship with Henry Veale (no marriage found)
Henry and Jeanette also had the following children:
Henry Veale Musgrave, birth registered in the June quarter 1867 in Andover, Hampshire. Henry was baptised as Henry on the 27th July 1867, at St Nicolas Newbury, the son of Henry and Jeannette Veale. (Baptism record records abode as Bermondsey) Henry died on the 29th July, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 31st July 1867 as Henry Veale.

The 1871 census records Henry (39) as a Painter, living in Chubb’s Yard, St Mary’s Hill, Newbury, Berkshire, with Jeanette (27), Amey (7), Edwin (6), Albert (2), William (1) and Caroline Musgrove (30) (James Musgrave’s sister) (family surname recorded as Reale on ancestry).
In 1878 the family were living in Bayer’s Yard, Newbury.
On the 20th March 1878 Albert’s brothers, William and Walter were playing on the banks of the river Kennet, sadly Walter fell into the river and drowned. He was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 25th March.
Jeanette Shadrach Musgrave died in 1887, death registered in Farnham.
Albert in later life:
Albert joined the Army in 1886, he served in the Princess Charlotte of Wales (Royal Berkshire Regiment) and the Royal Garrison Regiment. Military records record him as 5'7 ¼ ", 140 lbs, fresh complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, CoE, tattoos both forearms.
He married in 1893.
The following marriage announcement appeared in the Newbury Weekly News dated 28th December 1893
Dec. 25, Sgt. Albert Henry Veale of 2nd Royal Berks Regt Portland, Dorset to Annie (Nancy) Parr 4th daughter of John and Harriet Parr of Newbury.

Bride: Annie Parr, aged 19, spinster, abode, Cheap Street, Newbury
Fathers: John Parr, a Labourer and Henry Veale (deceased), a Painter.
Witnesses: Charlotte Parr, John Parr and Richard Stillman
Bride and Groom both signed.
Annie died aged 21 in 1895 (death registered in Reading) she was buried on the 23rd February at St George, Tilehurst.
Albert remarried in 1898 in Reading, his 2nd wife was Beatrice Ellen Bosher. Beatrice died aged 23 in 1900 in Reading. She was buried on the 22nd September in the London Road Cemetery, Reading.
The 1901 census records Albert (38) as a Soldier, Royal Garrison Regiment, visiting his brother-in-law (brother of his late wife Annie) William James Parr (40) a Bricklayer, and his family, at 9 Denmark Street, Aldershot, Hampshire.
Albert was discharged from the Army on the 16th August 1905. His intended residence was 2 Derby Cottages, Kings Road, Newbury.
He married again in 1907 (marriage registered in Newbury) His 3rd wife was his sister-in-law Charlotte Parr (Annie’s younger sister)
Charlotte gave birth to a daughter, Charlotte Janetta on the 29th February 1908 in Newbury
In 1911 Albert (43), a Labourer, Charlotte (34) and their daughter Jeannette Charlotte (3) (Charlotte Janetta) were recorded living at 2 Derby Cottages, Kings Road, Newbury. His father-in-law John Parr (76) was working as a Labourer (Water Works), he was also living at the same premises with his daughter Bessie (32) (Elizabeth) and his niece, Martha Jane Head (17) but they were recorded living separately.
Charlotte gave birth to a daughter Winifred Harriet on the 22nd December 1911 in Newbury
Albert died aged 44 on the 23rd January 1912, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th January.
Charlotte (45) was living in Newbury in 1921, with her daughters Charlotte Janetta (13), Winifred Harriet (9), her father John Parr (87) and her sister Eizabeth Parr (42).
Charlotte Janetta married Sidney Arthur Page in 1932 (marriage registered in Newbury)
Winifred Harriet married Samuel John Dumelow (aka John) in 1934 (marriage registered in Newbury)
The 1935 Electoral Register records Charlotte, her married daughter Winifred Harriet Dumelow and her sister Elizabeth Clara Parr living at 1 North View, Hambridge Road, Newbury
The 1939 Register records Charlotte living at 1 North View, Hambridge Road, Newbury with her brother Thomas, his wife Mary Jane Parr and her sister Elizabeth Parr.
Charlotte died aged 69 on the 4th April 1946, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with her husband Albert (buried 1912) and her father John Parr (buried 1922)
