Transciption: | ANNIE WINTLE THE LATE Mrs. WINTLE. The funeral of the late Mrs. Wintle, whose regretted death was recorded in our last issue. took place on Saturday at the Cemetery. The deceased lady, who was 61 years of age, came of a family long and honourably connected with the town, being the only daughter of the late Alderman Henry Flint, J.P. She was wedded to Mr. George Wintle some 33 years since, soon after he commenced business in' the town. The death occurred after an illness of several months' duration, and the family have been the recipients of a large number of messages of sympathy and condolence from their extended circle of friends. These manifestations of regret were especially noticeable at the funeral, the first portion of which was held at the Congregational Church, where the deceased lady attended. There was a large congregation representative of the townspeople. The mourners included Mr. Wintle, Mr. George Wintle, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Collins, Miss Annie Wintle, Mr. Basil Thomas, Miss Mabel Wintle, Mr. Frampton, Mr. and Mrs. L M. Britten, Miss Marjorie Wintle, Miss Florence Wintle, Mr. Dixon Burtan, Miss Nora Wintle, Mr. A. C. Wintle, Mrs. H. Lucas, Mr. Stanley Ravenor, Mr. and M rs. Robert Martin, jun., and Mr. and Mrs. John Flint, the Misses Chapman, Railton, Cooke, Andrews and Davie, and Mr. Herbert Read. The service was conducted by the Pastor of the Congregational Church, the Rev. F. W. Clarke, B.A., and was of a simple but impressive character. Only one hymn was sung, “Peace, perfect peace," and as the coffin was being borne from the church, the Dead March in "Saul" was played by the organist, Mr. Andrew Freeman. Mus. Bac. The mournful cortege then made its way to the Cemetery where the concluding portion of the service took place.
The coffin was of oak with brass furniture, and the plate bore the inscription:— ANNIE WINTLE. Died December 12, 1906, Aged 61. The number of floral tributes were so many that they had to be conveyed in a special carriage. The senders included … then follows a long list of names, some of whom were to follow later to be interred themselves in the cemetery!
