OBITUARY

The bereavement which has been sustained by Mr. Alderman Wilson and his family in the removal of Mrs. Wilson on Tuesday last after a brief illness, has awakened much sincere sympathy and sorrow throughout the town, the deceased lady having resided in Newbury for a great number of years, and having been widely known and most highly esteemed amongst all classes. To many of her poorer neighbours in particular, her many acts of kindness and charity will cause her loss to be greatly felt.

This is followed by an obituary for Mrs Caroline Wareham which see*

The burial of Mrs Wilson will take place, we believe, on Monday next.

FRANCES WILSON

THE FUNERAL OF THE LATE Mrs. EDWARD WILSON took place at three o'clock on Monday afternoon. Notwithstanding a continuous, downpour of rain a large number of persons assembled in the Cemetery, where the interment was conducted by the Rector (Rev. E. I. Gardiner).

The coffin, which was conveyed to the Cemetery on the hand bier, was entirely covered with beautiful flowers, which thus served the purpose of a pall.

Most of the tradesmen in the town put up shutters and private residents drew down their blinds, thus testifying to the general sympathy which is expressed on all sides towards Ald. Wilson and his family, in their bereavement.

Biographical Information

The articles below contain information about Frances Wilson.

Frances Wilson

Frances Kerman was wife of George, a draper in Northbrook St. Maiden name possibly Chubb. May have married in St Pancras Old Church, London. George died in 1844 & Frances lived with her daughter & family.

It would appear that Frances’s daughter was also Frances Wilson having married our Edward Wilson and mothered our “broken column"man, Walter Berkeley Wilson as well as Arabella and Florence, both in NRC.

The other son, Brice, formerly Captain of the Newbury Volunteer Fire Brigade, seems to have found his way to Australia.
