James Wood

James was born on either the 28th September 1800, as recorded on his MI or the 30th September 1801 as recorded on his baptism record in Milverton Somerset. He was baptised on the 9th March 1806 in Milverton Somerset along with his brothers William and John born 7th April 1803, the sons of James and Jane Wood (nee Janes or Jennings) who were married on the 5th January 1796 in Milverton.

Groom: James Wood, full age, bachelor, occupation, Butler, abode, Curzon Street
Bride: Sarah Jemima Breese, full aged, spinster, abode, Curzon Street
Fathers: James Wood and James Breese, both Gardeners
Witnesses: Robert Hunt, Mary Ann Hunt and Jane Andrews

(Sarah Jemima was, born 21' September 1812, she was baptised 22' October 1812 in Fisherton Anger, Wiltshire, the daughter of James and Fanny Breese (nee Harris) who were married on the 26th November 1810 at St George Hanover Square Westminster).
James and Sarah had the following three sons, all born in Newbury:

James was recorded working as a Butler in Newtown, Hampshire, (for an Edmund Arbuthnot., a Justice of the Peace), in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census records. His wife was recorded living in Montague Terrace/Place, Newbury.
James died aged 75 on the 19" September 1876, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road
Cemetery on the 23 September.
The 1881 census records Sarah living with one servant in Montague Terrace, Newbury.
Sarah died aged 72 on the 21% July 1884, she was laid to rest with her husband James on the
24' July.

James Wood late of Newbury in the County of Berks Gentleman who died 19" September
1876 at Newbury was proved at the Principal Registry by Robert James Wood of Kingston
