Sarah was baptised on the 6th November 1859 in Wooton Rivers, Wiltshire, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Kingston (nee Paice) who were married on the 1st January 1859 in Wootton Rivers, Wiltshire.

Her father Thomas was baptised on the 26th November 1820 in Wootton Rivers, the son of James and Susanna Kingston (nee Cole) who were married on the 14th October 1811 in Wootton Rivers. Thomas died aged 77 in 1897 (death registered in Pewsey).

Her mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 17th August 1834 in Wootton Rivers, the daughter of William and Anne Paice. Elizabeth died aged 73 in 1906 (death registered in Pewsey).

Sarah’s siblings were:

In 1861 Sarah (1) was recorded living in Wootton Rivers with parents Thomas (40), a Farmer of 25 acres and Elizabeth (28).

The 1871 census records Sarah (11) living in Cuckoo’s Knob, Wootton Rivers, Wiltshire with her father Thomas (50) an Agricultural Labourer, her mother Elizabeth (36) and her brothers James W (7) and Arthur J (4)

In 1881 Sarah (24) was recorded working as a Domestic Nurse for a magistrate, Archer B Croft and his family at 1 Calverley Park Gardens, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

 Sarah married Charles Alfred Hyder in 1885 (marriage registered in Tunbridge).

Charles was born on the 28th June 1853 in Rotherfield, Sussex, the son of William (a Labourer) and Harriet Hyder (nee Card) who were married on the 9th August 1851 at St Denys Rotherfield

Sarah and Charles had the following children:

Thomas William born 1886 birth registered in Uckfield (died 1886 in Uckfield)

Arthur James born 1887 birth registered in Pewsey

Charles William born 1889 birth registered in Pewsey

Elizabeth Charlotte Mabel born 1890 birth registered in Uckfield

Mary Harriet Alice born 1892 birth registered in Ticehurst

Helen May born c1896 birth registered in Ticehurst

Amy Sarah Kingston born 1901 birth registered in Tunbridge

The 1891 census records Sarah (36), her husband Charles (36), and their children Arthur (3), Charles (2) and Elizabeth (4 months) living in Maplesdeus, Rotherfield. Charles was recorded as a Gardener Domestic Servant.

The 1901 census records Sarah (41), Charles (45), a Corn Store Labourer and their children Arthur (13), Charles (11), Mabel (9) (Elizabeth Charlotte Mabel), Alice (7) (Mary Harriet Alice) and Helen (5), living at 6 Clifton Terrace, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

The 1911 census records Sarah (50), Charles (56), a Domestic Gardener, and their children Charles (22), Alice (18) (Mary Harriet Alice), Helen (15) and Amy (9), living at 19 Dukes Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent,

The 1939 Register records Charles as a Retired Gardener living at “Mardens” The Folly, Stroud Green, Newbury with Sarah, their daughter-in-law Margaret Hyder (wife of their son Charles William) and their grandson Leslie Hyder (son of their son Arthur James).

Charles died aged 87 on the 26th September 1940, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th September.

Sarah Ann died aged 82 on the 7th December 1941, she was laid to rest with Charles on the 11th December.
