Frank Leslie White
1893-1941
Frank was born on the 25th October 1893 in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Edward William and Mary White (nee Garrett) who were in 1876.

His father Edward was born in 1854 in Newbury, the son of Charles (a Gardener) and Lydia White (nee Rawlins) who were married on the 4th October 1847 at St Nicolas, Newbury. Edward was recorded as a Whitesmith & Bellhanger in 1881, a Whitesmith in 1891 &1901 and a Gas Fitter in 1911. He died aged 67 in 1922 and was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th October.
His mother Mary was born in 1850 in Newbury, she was baptised on the 30th June 1850 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the daughter of Thomas (a Gardener) and Ann Garrett (nee Foster) who were married on the 18th October 1842 in Kingsclere, Hampshire. Mary died aged 86 in 1937, she was buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th May.

The 1881 census records the family living the Nursery, Old Road, Newbury. By 1891 they had moved to Victoria Terrace and by 1901 they were living at 3 Rydal Villas, Queen’s Road, Newbury.
In 1911 Frank (17) was working as an Apprentice Upholsterer, he was still living at home in Rydal Villas, with his parents and his siblings, Edward Thomas (28), an Engine Fitter and Turner, Evelyn Nellie (26), a Dressmaker and Elsie Kate (20).
Frank married Ellen Harvey in 1924 in Newbury.
They had a son Leslie Norman who was born on the 18th April 1924 (less than three weeks after Frank and Elleny married)
The 1926 Electoral Register records Frank and Ellen living at 91 Queen’s Road, Newbury. His parents were living next door at number 93.
The 1926-1934 Electoral Registers record Frank and Ellen living at 105 Gloucester Road, Newbury. By 1938 Frank was living at 21 Salcombe Road, Newbury with his sister Minnie Alice and his brother Edward Thomas
The 1939 Register records Frank as a Motor Mechanic living at 21 Salcombe Road, Newbury. Ellen and her son Leslie were recorded living at 15 Kennet Road, Newbury.
Frank died aged 47 in 1941 (death registered in Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire) his body was brought to Newbury and he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with his maternal grandparents Thomas and Ann Garrett, his parents Edward William and Mary White and his uncle John Garrett (recorded as George on the MI)
(Frank’s grandfather Thomas Garrett was a Sexton, living in the Cemetery Lodge from 1873-1891)
