Sarah was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the eldest child of John William and Harriet Randall (nee Parsons) who were married on the 15th April 1839 at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.

Her father John was baptised on the 9th August 1807 at St Mary, Newington, Southwark, Surrey, the son of John and Ann Randall. Sarah’s father John was a Grocer and Provisions Merchant, trading at 91 Northbrook Street, Newbury, Berkshire. (Now (2023) Tui Holiday Store). He was elected a member of the Town Council on the 1st May 1854 and served as Mayor for two consecutive years (1861-1863). He was also a trustee of the municipal charities and proctor of St. Bartholomew's Charity.

Her mother Harriet was born on the 8th April 1809, she was baptised on the 27th November 1809 at St Andrew, Clifton, Gloucestershire, the daughter of Thomas and Sally Parsons (nee Porter) who were married on the 18th September 1806 at St George, Hanover Square London.

Sarah’s siblings were:

The 1841 census records Sarah (1) living with her parents John (30), Harriet (30) and her grandmother Sally Parsons (65), in Northbrook Street, Newbury.

The 1851 census records Sarah (11) living with her aunt, (her father’s sister) Elizabeth Randall (63), a Farmer of 400 acres, in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire.

In 1861 Sarah (21), her father John (54), her mother Harriet (51), her sister Harriet Jane (16), three Grocer’s Assistants, William Harris (26), Alfred Judd (23), James Hill (18), a Housemaid and a Cook, were recorded at 91 Northbrook Street.

Sarah’s father died aged 56 on the 18th November 1863, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24th November.

Sarah (30), her mother Harriet (61), her brother John William (24), a Grocer’s Assistant and two domestic servants were living in New Street, Newbury in 1871.

The 1881 census records Sarah (41), as a Parish Worker, living in Craven Street, Newbury with her mother Harriet (71), recorded as an Annuitant and her brother John William (33), (no occupation recorded).

Sarah’s mother Harriet died aged 79 on the 30th September 1888, she was laid to rest with her husband John, on the 1st October.

The 1891 census records Sarah (51) living on her own means, boarding at 4 Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with an Elizabeth Goddard.

In 1901 Sarah (61) was recorded as, partly living on her own means and a parish visitor, she was still boarding with Elizabeth Goddard but now at the Old Rectory, (by the Presbyterian Chapel) Northbrook Street, Newbury.

She was recorded as a Bible Reader and Parish Visitor aged 71, in the 1911 census and was still boarding at the Old Rectory.

Sarah Elizabeth died aged 77 on the 28th March 1917, she laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the and 30th March with her parents and her brother-in-law Alfred Judd.
