DEATH OF MR. W.G. HEAD OF NEWBURY
25 YEARS WITH MESSRS. EDWARDS AND GODDING
We regret to record the death of Mr. William George Head of 6 St. George's Avenue, Newbury, which took place in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, on Tuesday. Mr. Head, who was 52 years of age, had been a white smith in the employ of Messrs. Edwards and Godding Ltd., for 25 years and was highly respected by the firm and his colleagues. He had been away from his work for about six weeks, and after being in Newbury District Hospital was transferred to the Royal Berks Hospital.

He was born at Bramley, near Guildford, and served his apprenticeship with a Mr. Jackson at Bramley. Later he was employed by Messrs. Belgrave and Whiteman at Ryde, and came to Newbury at the time they joined Messrs.Edwards and Godding. He was a lifelong member of the West Surrey Benefit Society. During the War he served for three-and-a-half years with the Royal Army Service Corps, and for the latter part of the time was engaged in the transport workshops on Salisbury Plain.

Much sympathy is felt for the widow. Mr. and Mrs. Head's only child, a daughter, died six years ago at the age of 19.

The funeral takes place at St John's Church, Newbury, on Saturday at 2pm, the interment being in the Newtown-road Cemetery.

This obituary entry is awaiting verification.
