James was a canal lock keeper who lived with his family first at Greenham Mills Lock Cottage & by 1871 in the Canal Cottage, Northbrook St. He & Hannah had 9 children. When widowed, Hannah became a laundress & by 1881 lived with her d. Elizabeth, grandson, James, & a Lodger in West Fields, Newbury.
