EDWARD JOHN DUCKETT FIFTY YEARS A CONFECTIONER DEATH OF MR.E.J. DUCKETT
The death occurred on Wednesday last week of Mr. Edward John Duckett, of 111, Bartholomew-street, where he had been in business as a confectioner for the last fifty years. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Duckett, of Victoria-street, he first went into the blacksmith's trade at Wickham, Hants, but following an illness returned to Newbury to take over the confectioner's business in 1901. Mr. Duckett took a keen interest in sport and always followed the fortunes of of Newbury Football Club. He was of a cheerful disposition and was always good company.
His wife predeceased him in 1932 and he leaves a son, Mr. Reginald Duckett, whose wife is carrying on the business, and a daughter.
The funeral took place on Monday at the Old Cemetery, Newtown-road. Mr. Duckett being buried in the same grave as his wife. The Rev. R.R. Woodfield officiated.
The family mourners were Mr. and Mrs. R. Duckett (son and daughter-in-law), Mrs. Grover (daughter), Mr. H. Duckett (nephew), Mr. A. Laishley, Mr. R. Laishley (brothers-in-law)), Mrs. R. Laishley (sister-in-law), Mrs. Bone and Mrs. Collins (friends).
