WILLIAM MORRIS

On Wednesday morning last a case of awfully sudden death occurred to Mr. William Morris, builder, aged 68 years, and for many years a resident of Newbury, and consequently being well known, the sad event has cast quite a gloom over the town. The deceased had not been quite in his usual good health of late, but not of such a nature as to cause alarm, for he had performed his usual duties up to the time of his death.

On Tuesday he attended the Charity Audit dinner at the Globe Inn, and appeared as lively as ever. He left at the early hour of seven, having been very careful of what he partook, and retired to rest about nine o'clock. He commenced getting up about three o'clock the next morning, no doubt believing that it was much later, and talked to his wife about going to Brimpton that morning, but complained of giddiness in his head. During this conversation he staggered and fell down in the bedroom. Mrs Morris immediately called her son, who instantly ran for Mr. J. Bunny, surgeon, but before his arrival the deceased had ceased to breath.

An inquest was held on Wednesday evening, before J. Bunny Esq., coroner, and the jury, after hearing the evidence, returned a verdict of “Died from natural causes.”
