ROBERT CLARKE
Funeral of an Oddfellow.—On Wednesday last, the funeral of Mr. Robert Clarke, member of the Oddfellows' Society, took place at the Newbury Cemetery. The deceased was member of the " Good Intent" Lodge, Swindon, but had for some time resided in Newbury, having been married about 15 months agq, at which time he was apparently a strong, healthy young man. The funeral procession was accompanied by large number of the members of the Society of Oddfellows.
The funeral service was very impressively performed by the Rev. Jos. Drew, who took the opportunity of improving the solemn occasion, by delivering a most eloquent address to the members and friends assembled, pointing out the advantages to be derived by joining such benevolent institutions, and earnestly exhorting all, while in health, to prepare for eternity. The address of the rev. gentleman was listened to with great attention, and produced a deep impression upon many present.
This is the third Oddfellow interred here within about eight months, and the kind feeling evinced by the members towards each other on these occasions, has had the effect of inducing many to join the society. The deceased Brother was only 29 years of age, and greatly respected by all who knew him.
