William Newbery. / who died/ suddenly in the Wesleyan/ Chapel Stockcross December 7th. 1862: / aged 70 years./ In the midst of life are we in death.// On footstone: H.T.N./1850/E.N./1864/W.N./1866/ ?n/1903//"

Constable of Greenham?

"The Force was supplemented by "Special" Constables who could be used to assist the regulars whenever it was anticipated that there would be large public gatherings or possible public disorder such as fairs, general elections etc. Used in Fenian scare of 1868.
