Berkshire Chronicle Date: Saturday 17 July 1852, page 8 BOROUGH POLICE — MONDAY
(Before W. Dredge, Esq., Mayor; E. W. Gray and J. Kimber, Esqrs.)
ASSAULT CASE — Louisa Bowles, of Dredge's Yard, Northbrook-street, was charged with having assaulted Leah Rolfe on Tuesday night last. It appeared from the evidence that the complainant lodged with the defendant, who could get very little rent from her, therefore was compelled to eject her from her house, at the same time kept possession of the complainant and child's clothes which left the parties almost naked, and they were obliged to borrow clothes of the neighbours. The complainant went again the next day for her clothes; the defendant still refused to part with them, when high words arose, and blows were resorted to; but the evidence was of a contradictory character, therefore the bench dismissed the case, on the defendant promising to give up the property.
