Death from drowning
on Wednesday evening an inquest was held in the council chamber before Joseph Bunny Esquire, the borough coroner, on view of the body of Frederick Samuel Willis, aged 7 years, son of Mr Charles Willis, Taylor, Bartholomew St, who was found drowned the night before. Charles Willis the brother of the deceased stated that they went to their grandmothers at West Mills on Tuesday evening about 7:30 o'clock and on their return home after passing over the bridge the deceased left him. The last time he saw his brother was in Mr Adey's crane house near the water and he was climbing a post there. George Noyes policeman said he was on duty at West Mills that night and having been informed that the deceased could not be found and that it was thought he might have fallen into the water he went to Mr Thomas Knight of town mills about 11:00 o'clock and they searched the water and soon found the deceased close to the mills. He appeared to have been dead sometime. Mr knight corroborated the evidence Mr Noyes. The coroner thought the jury would not meet with any difficulty in the matter for it was quite clear the deceased had come to his death by drowning. The jury immediately returned their verdict that the deceased was found drowned. The poor boy was one of the candidates for Christ hospital on Monday. |
