Longevity is Newbury. From the 5th of September last, to the 3rd of October, five individuals were consecutively interred in the Newbury Cemetery, whose respective ages were 85, 76, 70, 81, and 75, forming an aggregate 387 years. Their names were, Mary Grubb, Elizabeth Lloyd, Sarah Pocock, Elizabeth Shapcott, and Mary Smith. In the previous month of August, two other individuals were buried, of the respective ages of 95 and 91 years. If this should be considered a proof of the unhealthiness and insalubrity of Newbury, an additional fact may produced by a statement, that inmates of almshouses, close upon one spot, may be found, whose ages average 75 years each, forming aggregate 4350 years. |
