She was the mother of ALFRED CHARLES ASHFIELD who was killed in action in World War 1 on 16th March 1916. Her husband, WILLIAM, died in 1932 aged aged 64.
Her son, WILLIAM JOHN, also served in WW1 but survived until 1972 when he died at 77.
Her son, ARTHUR JAMES, served in France and survived.
Son ERNEST was not old enough for conscription, and not considered fit; died in March 1917, aged 19.
Sons HENRY ALBERT and FREDERICK BERTRAM were also too young to serve.
FREDERICK subsequently died in WW2 when his ship, HMS DARING, was torpedoed in February 1940. |
