FUNERALS AT NEWBURY
THE LATE MR.LOCKYEAR
On Wednesday, the 6th inst., the funeral of the late Mr. George Outen Lockyear, of Newtown-road, took place. The deceased was well-known in the town, especially amongst builders’ merchants etc., having been connected with the late firm of Messrs. Jackson and later their successors, Messrs. Edwards and Golding, for the long term of 51 years. He was also a very old member of the Brighton branch of Oddfellows.
The remains, enclosed in a polished elm coffin, with the inscribed breastplate,
“George Outon Lockyear, [sic]
died January 1st, 1915,
aged 50 years”
was conveyed to St John’s Church, where the first part of the service was read by the Rev. H.W. Trotter, and thence to the Newbury Cemetery.
The mourners were Mr.Charles Lockyear (son), Miss Emily Lockyear, Miss Nellie Lockyear, Mrs. Matthews, Miss Jane Lockyear (daughter), etc
