Annie Parkes ROCHE

The immense value of a parish nurse in Newbury has been fully testified during the past few weeks. Nurse Roche has already had ample opportunity to test her skill and capabilities and on all sides I hear her spoken of in the highest terms.

As a sample of her usefulness during her first five weeks residence she paid 337 visits to 60 patients.

That a skilled nurse should be always available for poor people, irrespective of denominational differences, is a boon which can only be appreciated to the full in times of epidemic such as we are passing through, and it is hoped ample means will be forthcoming for helping so excellent an institution as a nurse for poor people.

ANNIE PARKES ROCHE

NURSE ROCHE.

Everybody has been saddened by the reports of Miss Roche, under treatment in Newbury Hospital for blood poisoning, supposed to have been contracted in the discharge of her duties as parish nurse. She appeared in a fair way to recovery, but. serious symptoms developed on Wednesday, and the specialist was again summoned.  He attended on Thursday and found it necessary to amputate the left forearm.  The patient bore the shock of the operation very well and has since progressed satisfactorily, but her condition still causes great anxiety.

This obituary entry is awaiting verification.
