POLICEMAN’S FUNERAL P.C. Richard Mason, who died last week in Newbury Hospital, was 53 years of age and had completed 31 years of approved service, being stationed at Boxford for number of years.
The deceased constable had been granted his pension, and would have retired on the 1st of January next year, had he lived.
The funeral took place on Friday afternoon, the first part of the service being conducted in St. John’s Church by the Vicar, Rev. R. Wickham Legg, who also officiated at the interment at the Cemetery.
The funeral was attended by all the available members of the Berkshire Constabulary, under the command of Supt. Gamble, and including Inspector Boulter, Sergeants Goddard, Rufey, Durmon, Pound, Ponsford, Police Constable Brooks, Gallop, Spratley, Elsbury, Grigg, Holloway, Painter, Hill, Cottrell, Bignell, Bennett, Burgess, Wilder, Bailey, Smith, Morton, Robey.
The mourners were the widow, three children, a brother and sister. A beautiful wreath was sent by the officers and constabulary and constables of the Berkshire Constabulary. |
