    George Cox, born in Kintbury, married Caroline Whiting from Welford. They were licensee's of The Gun, Wash Common. He left £129. After George's death, Caroline continued as licensee of The Gun.Before marriage, Caroline was a dressmaker of 'The City' & West Mills, Newbury. Her parents, Thomas & Caroline Whiting, are buried in plot NNWW4. Source: Ancestry records.

GEORGE THOMAS COX

 

THE LATE MR. GEORGE COX

 

The death took place on January 1st, of Mr. George Cox, who had been for the last 12 years the landlord of the “Gun,” Wash Common.

 

For many years previously he had been employed at the South Berks Brewery, and was one of its most trusted servants.

 

The funeral took place on Tuesday at the Cemetery, when there was a good assemblage of those who had known the deceased. The local Licensed Victuallers Association were represented by Messrs. Hedges and W. Fabry, and wreaths were sent from the widow and family, the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, the South Berks Brewery, and others.
