JONATHAN BROOKS
Jonathan Brooks, who was buried in the Cemetery on Thursday, was quite a local character. Years ago he was one of the best known drovers on the road, and was a familiar figure at all local markets and fairs. Jonathan had a distinct personality, and could express his views on men and things with considerable force.
In recent years he has been incapacitated by infirmity, and picked up a precarious living in the streets of Newbury. He was an inmate of the Workhouse, and Church Army Lodging-house for some time, but latterly had managed to get along on his own.
He was 69 years of age. He belonged, I believe, to Chieveley parish.
