SARAH TAYLOR

DEATH OF AN ALMSWOMAN

The death occurred on Thursday of Mrs. Sarah Taylor, who for three years had been an inmate of St Bartholomew's Almshouses.

The old lady used to possess considerable skill in the fashioning of caps and bonnets, which she would carry around the country for the benefit of a large circle of customers. In this way she would perform some extraordinary journeys, being a familiar figure with her basket all round the countryside. Fashions in millinery have probably greatly changed within the last few years, and Mrs. Taylor had to meet competition like other traders, but she kept at her task bravely until she secured the rest of the almshouses.

Her husband was a nail maker, and a skilful angler. A son, Mr. William Taylor, landlord of the "Carnarvon Arms," achieved a reputation as a cricketer.
