Dated 19th November 1903
John Edwin George Tombs aged 35, local preacher in Birmingham connected with the Wesleyan mission. Eldest son of late Edwin Tombs. On Sunday 8th addressed a mission gathering apparently in his usual health. Early next morning he was seized with an apoplectic fit and died in a very short time. The body was brought to Newbury for interment the following Friday, Rev F Holliday officiating. Mourners were mother, four brothers and Mrs S Elliott.
