WILLIAM EDWARD GOODENOUGH
The late Mr W E Goodenough
The death took place on Thursday afternoon of Mr William Edward Goodenough, of 11 Chesterfield road. Mr Goodenough had been a resident in Newbury for the last sixty years, and for twenty-five years was employed by Messrs. Elliott and Co., at their Albert Works. During the war, he acted as a temporary postman, being unable to volunteer for active service. Four years ago he met with a motor accident, which left him unfit for definite employment. He was a member of St John’s Church, and in private life was of a retiring disposition, loving the quiet of home life, devoted to reading.
He leaves a wife and one son, who mourn the loss of one who was simple, friendly, modest and of good report. On Sunday evening his body was taken into St, John’s Church, when the Office of the Dead was said by the Vicar. And on Monday morning a Solemn Requiem was said. The burial took place in the afternoon, the Office being said by the Vicar (Rev. E H Stenning), assisted by the Rev. F D Briscoe.
