THOMAS ANDREW NEWTON
Sudden Death. Mr. Thomas Newton of Northbrook-street, an old and well-known inhabitant, died suddenly on Thursday morning last. Some time ago he was seized with partial paralysis, and subsequently had attack of apoplexy, but latterly he had been in the enjoyment of fairly good health. On Thursday morning he got out of bed, and expired a few minutes afterwards. In his early days Mr. Newton was a great lover of cricket and other sports, and was a keen angler. He took a great interest in the Easter Monday races and rural sports, holding the position of chairman of the committee. He was the oldest member (in the Society of) Oddfellows, of which lodge he was treasurer and also trustee. In Oddfellowship he had filled the highest offices in the district.

THOMAS ANDREW NEWTON
The Late Mr. Thomas Newton.—The funeral of this old and much respected townsman took place on Tuesday afternoon, in the cemetery, in the presence of a large concourse of persons. The deceased was followed to the grave by nearly 100 members of the Oddfellows' Society, to which Mr. Newton had belonged for many years. The Mayor and several other members of the Corporation were present; and representatives of the cricket club and rural sports committee also attended.
A beautiful floral wreath, supplied by Messrs. Jarrett and Johnston, was sent by the rural sports committee, and nearly a dozen were deposited on the coffin. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. C. Parr, and the charge used at an Oddfellows' funeral was given by Bro. Fred. C. Seymour. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. George Wintle, of Northbrook-street. Shutters were closed and blinds drawn along the route taken by the funeral cortege.
