Obituary NWN 12/7/1883 THE LATE MR. CHARLES JACKSON.
- It is with much regret we have to announce the decease of our townsman, Mr. Charles Jackson, who in conjunction with his father, Mr. Alderman Jackson, has for some years carried on business in the Market-place. Mr. Jackson has for a considerable time been in failing health, and notwithstanding the best efforts of his medical advisers, and change of air and scene, he succumbed to the insidious malady from which he has suffered on Monday, in London whence he had travelled to consult his physician, from Eastbourne, where he had been staying in order to derive benefit from the sea air. Mr. Jackson has been prominently connected with the Volunteer Rifle Corps, being frequently successful in gaining valuable prizes. He was also one of the trustees of the Municipal Charities, and was elected as one of the Governors of the New Grammar School, at which Board, however, he has never taken his seat. It is needless to say that deep sympathy is felt with his sorrowing family, Mr. Jackson being in the prime of life, and until recently regarded as of sound and vigorous constitution. The funeral will take place to-morrow at the Cemetery. The age of the deceased was 36 years at the time of death.
