SARAH ANNE NEVILLE

THE LATE MRS NEVILLE

The death took place on Tuesday, August 2nd, at Gloucester-road, of Mrs. Neville, widow of the Rev. John Neville, Primitive Methodist minister.

The deceased lady was born on January 1st, 1843, Her father was for over forty years attached to the London City Mission, labouring with much success in the district around South Newington. She was educated at Homerton College for teaching the profession, and was principal of a private school at Cirencester when she married on January 2nd, 1882, her husband, then a widower, being in charge of the Banbury Circuit, and in his successive appointments at Wallingford, Blandford, Wootton Bassett, Oxford and Newbury, she gave herself with whole-hearted earnestness to the many objects which she found came within the purview of a minister’s wife, such as visitations, Christian Endeavour, Sunday School, Women’s Own, - in all these labours of love proving herself a true helpmeet to her husband in his sacred duties. The last twenty-four of her life was spent in Newbury- seven of these were whilst Mr. Neville was in active work, and the remainder when in retirement. The life of the deceased lady was one of consistent goodness, and many and tender memories have been the appreciation of those coming under her influence. Her last years were marked by much bodily weakness.

The funeral was on Friday last at the Old Cemetery. The first part of the service being at the Primitive Methodist Church, the Revs. P. Jackson, A.B. Gowers and J.H. Green taking part. The mourners were Mr. Egbert Neville, Mr. Moon and Mrs. W. Pratt (brother and sister), Mrs. Moon (sister-in-law), Miss Pratt, Mr. Edward Pratt.

Many old friends gathered at the funeral, and numerous floral tokens had been received.
