The Late Mrs. Leggat

The deepest sympathy of the town and district goes out to Dr. Gordon Leggat in the bereavement he has sustained by the death of his wife under such sad circumstances. Mrs Leggat was a member of the Framptom family, well-known in the district for many years, and was only 40 years of age. The widespread regret and sympathy which the event aroused was indicated by the large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Monday at the old Cemetery. The service was taken by the Rev. T. G. Tylee. The mourners were Dr. A. Gordon Leggat (husband), Mr. F. E. Frampton (brother), Mr. S. Turner Rooke (brother-in-law), Mr, Raymond Adey (brother-in-law), Mr. Jack Adey and Mr. Angus Macallister (nephews) and Mr. H. E. Seales. Amongst those also noticed present were Dr. Falkland Rooke, Dr. and Mrs. Adams, Dr. and Mrs. Kennedy, Dr. and Mrs. Baxter, Nurses Duncan and Hawtin, Alderman John Rankin, Colonel Stanton and Major Tilney (representing the British Legion\0, Messers. E. Longmate and J. T. Lawrence (representing the Newbury Amateur Dramatic Society), Mr. Hugh Turner (representing the Newbury ad District Amateur Operatic Society), Mr. J. W. Rosling (representing the Newbury Education Committee), Messers. Edward Turner and Percy Chillingworth (representing the Masonic Brethren), Councillor A. C. Elliott, Mr. W. K. T. Hope, Mrs. Frank Bazett, Mr. and Mrs. E. Martin, Mr. James Edgerly (High Wycombe), Mr. and Mrs. Morcom Jones, Mrs. Seales, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Church, Mr. Church jun., Mr. and Mrs. Montague Paginton, Mrs. Hobbs, Miss Day, Mr. Arnold Shepherd, Mr. R. Green, Mr. A. C. Theodosius, Miss Salway, Mr. L. H. Johnson, etc., etc.
