THE LATE MISS LUCY B. DAY
The death occurred on December 31st., at Auckland House, Craven-road, of liss Lucy Bertha Day, at the age of 88.
Her father, Mr. William Day, was a well-known resident at Cowes, in the Isle Wight, for many years. Most of Miss Day's early life was spent at Little Bookham, Surrey, with her uncle, Rev. J. Halkett, who was Rector for many years. Miss Day resided for a time at Thatcham, and two years ago came to end her days at Newbury, wishing to be near her relatives, Rev. T.G. and Miss Tylee. Miss Day made her home at Auckland House, where she and her companion, Miss Jones, were soon happy and at home with Mr. and Mrs. Church.
The funeral took place on Friday at the Newtown-road Cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. L.R. Majendie, assisted by Rev. Gerard Tylee.
The mourners were Rev. Gerard and Miss Tylee (cousins), Mr. Cecil Lewis (Godalming), Miss Ruth Jones (companion), Miss Mary Jones, Mrs. Albert Church, Nurse Wellock, Dr. Gordon Leggat. etc.
The coffin was a polished casket, with panelled and raised lid, the breastplate inscribed:
