Deaths of Old Inhabitants   

BOTH AGED 95

Two of Newburys oldest inhabitants passed away last week in the persons of Mrs Emma Capes , of 46 Craven Road and Miss Hampton Butcher of Grosvenor Lawn Craven road . They had both reached the great age of 95. Mrs Capes who died on Thursday came of an old Newbury family. She had travelled extensively spending many years in the United States. Even up to a few years ago she was an active woman and on her 90th birthday , which happened to fall on Newbury Fair day, She celebrated the event by going to the fair. She took a daily walk and did her own shopping and seldom missed attending the Sunday evening service at the parish church. The funeral took place on Monday the first part of the service being conducted by the Rev A A H Radice at the Newbury Parish Church.

 The mourners were Mrs W Bishop, Mrs  W Weale,Mrs fremantle (nieces) and Mrs Wing . Flowers were sent by Mrs Charlotte Blackshire (sister) , Mr and Mrs Bishop , Mr and Mrs Whealer and Gerald; Maud, Will, Jean, Mr and Mrs Freemantle and Ray, Mr and Mrs Wing and Jack.

The internment was at the Newtown Road Cemetery.

Miss Butcher who died on February the 9th was the 4th daughter of Thomas Butcher of Great Cheverill Wiltshire. Her family were well known in the district . The funeral took place on Wednesday last week the Internet being in the family vault at Great Shefferd.   ( Further details followed …………………………..

The Funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Camp Hobson and Company Limited.
