The death has occurred at Bath Road Thatcham of Mrs Bebbington. The deceased lady was the widow of the late Mr W. H. Bebbington who died suddenly at Cold Ash some 14 years ago. They will be remembered by a wide circle of friends. Formerly resident at Henwick, the late Mr Bebbington had built a pretty and beautifully situated house at Cold Ash but he unfortunately did not live to enjoy his new home. Singing was the pleasure and delight of both husband and wife and their little “ditties” or duets with Mr Bebington at the instrument were always an enjoyable item at musical gatherings. They were strong Nonconformists and regularly worshipped at the Thatcham Congregational Church, a support and attendance continued by the now deceased lady up until such time a few months ago since that failing health forbad. At the annual sale of work of this cause Mrs. Bebbington was a regular and energetic worker and stall holder. The loss of a husband (for they were a most devoted couple) was a great blow to her, but she maintained her interest in matters of church and locality, and retained her youthful personality to a remarkable degree. She will be missed by the village.
The funeral took place at Newbury Cemetery on Friday the internment being in the same grave that received the mortal remains of her husband. The Reverend John Stay minister of Thatcham Congregational Church officiated. The morners included: Mrs. Hamblin, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. H. Robinson (nieces), Mr. Harper Bebbington (of Ledbury, Hertfordshire) (nephew), Mr. F. Povey (cousin). Mr. J. Weaver (brother in law) and Mr. H. Hamblin. Others president included Mrs. Arthur Brown, Mrs. Stillman, Mrs. and Miss Flitter, Mrs. Hill, Miss Rowles. Etc.
