FORMER MAYORESS
FUNERAL OF MRS. M. HILL
The funeral took place at Newbury Parish Church on Saturday of Mrs. Mary Ann Hill, whose death occurred on February 6th at “Rothsay”, Andover-road, Newbury, the residence of her grand daughter. She was eighty six.
Mrs Hill was the widow of Mr. Frank Hill and gave him every support as Mayoress during his two years' Mayoralty from 1925-1927. He held the licence of the Railway Hotel for twenty-eight years and Mrs Hill carried it on for twelve months after his death, about seventeen years ago. Since then she had lived a very quiet life.
The service was conducted by the Rector, the Rev. Bertram Russell.
The family mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Gunter (grandchildren), Mrs. Humphries (also representing Mr. Edward Tranter, brother of Mrs. Hill), Mrs Rogers (niece), also representing Miss Standage (niece), Mr. Dallimore (representing Mr. T. Gunter grandson), Mrs. Percy Jones (only daughter) was unable to attend owing to illness.
The interment was in Newtown-road Cemetery
