THE LATE MR. WILLIAM WILLIS
Veteran of the Berkshire Regt.
The many friends of Mr. William Willis will learn with regret of his death, which occurred suddenly at his home, 29 Connaught-road, Newbury, on Friday, November 6th.
Born at Woodspeen, Mr. Willis lived all his life in Newbury, and he would have been 82 years of age next month. In the early part of his life he served 12 years with the Royal Berkshire Regiment. For 6 years of this period he was in Egypt, where he received the Egyptian Medial, 1882, and the Khedive’s Bronze Star. Later, Mr. Willis was on active service in the Boer War and also during the Great War of 12914-18. For 17 years he was employed by the Newbury Corporation Gas Works. He was a keen bandsman in the Salvation Army over a period of 30 years and was also a member of the P.S.A. Mr Willis led an active life until the last, and his passing came as a great shock to his wife and family.
The funeral was held on Wednesday, last week, the service being conducted at the Salvation Army Hall by Adjutant Bracey. The interment took place at the Old Cemetery, Newtown-road.

Benham (grandchildren).
