DEATH OF MR. CHARLES GODWIN
We regret to announce the death of Mr. Charles Godwin, only surviving son of the late Mr. Charles Godwin F.S.A., of Speen Hill, and brother of the late Town Clerk of Newbury. Mr. Godwin who was deeply interested in the neighbourhood, with which his family had been so long identified, lived for many years in London, but had of late years returned to Newbury, and resided with his sister-in-law in the Craven-road, where he quietly passed away on Sunday morning last, after a long and trying illness most patiently borne. The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon in the family vault at the Newbury Cemetery. The establishment of the chapel was largely due to the action of Mr. Henry Godwin, and a stained glass window is inserted in the chapel to his memory. The service was taken by the Rev. E.I. Gardiner (Rector and Rural Dean). The outer coffin bore the inscription:
JOHN CHARLES GODWIN Died November 1898, Aged 58
