Death of Mrs. A. W. Purdue: - Deep sympathy has everywhere been expressed with Mr. A. W. Purdue and his family of nine children, on the death of Mrs. Purdue, which took place on Saturday night, after a short illness. The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, at the Cemetery, the Rev. John Williams officiating, the mourners including Mr. A. W. Purdue, the nine children, Mr. & Mrs. Cooper, Miss Kate Cooper, Mr. Cusden, & Mr. H. Hobbs. The coffin of polished oak bore the inscription: “Martha Ann Purdue, died August 6th 1898, aged 43.” Among the beautiful wreaths were those contributed by the bereaved husband and the children. Mr. & Mrs. Milsom, Mr. & Mrs. Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Berry, Mr. & Mrs. Cusden, Mr. & Mrs. Steene, Miss Purdue, Mr. & Mrs. Cooper, Miss Cooper, Mrs. Long, Mr. & Mrs. Furnice, Misses Brooks, Mr. & Mrs. Webb, Charlie & Jessie, Mr. & Mrs. Cook, Mr. Hobbs, Rev. & Mrs. Jarvis, Mr. Mason, Miss Mason, Master & Miss Webb. Mr. James (Reading), Mr. & Mrs. Vernon, Mr. Alf Lane &c. A large number of friends and others were present at the cemetery. Mr. Hannington of Northbrook Street was the undertaker.
