AGED ALMSMAN'S SUDDEN DEATH
The death occurred with tragic suddenness on Saturday night of Richard Morton, aged 73, of 1, Kimber's Almshouses. He was out and about on Saturday and visited his relatives, including his wife and son, who live in Wash-road, and in answer to one enquiry that evening said he never felt better in his life. He was very fond of reading, and his last words to Mr. F. Barton about 7.30 on Saturday evening were that he was going indoors to have a read.

Next morning when the charwoman who looks after the place arrived about 11 o'clock, she found the old man dead in his chair with his glasses and the open book on the table. Dr. Simmons was called and expressed the opinion that death had occurred during sleep. Deceased had previously been attended to by the doctor.

A Wiltshireman by birth he carried on business in Wash-road as a master plumber and was succeeded by his son.

The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at the Old Cemetery, the Rev. C.B.Clayton officiating. The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. George Morton (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Morton (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Laidler (son-in-law and daughter), and Mrs. Deadmarsh (sister) of London. Wreaths were sent by the widow and children, Miss Insley, Miss Baxter, and Miss MacDonald, and the neighbours.
