SUDDEN DEATH
A melancholy case of sudden death occurred on Monday evening to a man named Charles Hammond, residing in Speen-view-terrace, West Fields. It appears that the deceased had been in good health up to Monday, but when he came home to tea about half-past five, he complained of feeling unwell, and also numbness in his legs. Deceased was seized with an apoplectic fit, and was removed to bed. Medical aid was immediately procured, but from the first the case was pronounced to be a hopeless one, and about ten o'clock the same evening he passed away.

Deceased was 53 years of age, and a painter by trade, having worked for Mr. Hassell of Bartholomew-street, for a number of years. He belonged to the "Jack" Lodge of Oddfellows, and in addition to being Past Grand, had been a warden of that lodge for some time.

He leaves a widow and ten children to mourn his loss. The funeral takes place to-morrow (Friday) and will be attended by the Oddfellows in the district.
