MARY EMILY JONES

FUNERAL OF A POLICEMAN’S WIFE

On Tuesday the remains of the wife of P.C. Jones were interred at Newbury cemetery. The service was read by the Rev. H. H. Skrine (St. Nicholas, Newbury). The bearers, chosen from the constabulary, were Police-constables Smith, Day, Gibbs and Ottaway, and the pall-bearers were Police-constables Holliday and Naish. Sergt. Borlase was in command of the constables.

Several beautiful wreaths were placed on the coffin, conspicuous being a handsome one of white flowers, attached to which was a card with the inscription, "From the Newbury Borough Police, expressing their sympathy with their brother officer and his family in their sorrowful bereavement."

Deceased was 36 years of age, she had been ill for three or four months, and leaves eight young children.
