South face of copestone: In Loving Memory of Charles Pike/ born January 2nd. 1796/ died March 5th 1887/ "Be thou faithful unto death and I will giveth a crown of life".

CHARLES PIKE

HAMSTEAD MARSHALL

 

THE LATE MR. PIKE.

 

By the death of Mr. Pike of the Fisheries. Hamstead has lost one of its oldest inhabitants.

Mr. Pike was in the employ of the Craven family upwards of sixty years, by whom he was greatly respected.

His remains wore interred at Newbury cemetery on Friday last. The pall covered with wreaths, the tokens affection and respect from relatives and friends. and amongst those present to testily respect were the Rev. C A. Johnson. Mr. Alderman Adey, Mr. H. Burke Godwin, Mr. Lamb, etc.

Deceased was buried the same vault as his wife. The funeral was conducted by Messrs. Penford and Son.
